ASPR Proposed Regional Disaster Health Response System

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Dr. Robert Kadlec, supports investing in health care preparedness and trauma systems to establish a “regional disaster health response system.” Dr. Kadlec recently developed an opinion editorial which was published by the American Hospital Association (AHA).  He provided background information on why the system is necessary, the need for funding and training and the benefits of establishing the system including ensuring readiness during disasters and providing relief when staffing is inadequate. MISSION ZERO Approved as Part of Emergency Preparedness Legislation

On Wednesday, May 23rd, the Senate HELP Committee held a markup of S.2852, the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness and Advancing Innovation Act (PAHPA) of 2018. The bill will reauthorize and expand a number of programs aimed at improving the nation’s public health and medical preparedness.

TCAA is pleased to announce that the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee incorporated the Military Injury Surgical Systems Integrated Operationally Nationwide to Achieve ZERO Preventable Deaths (MISSION ZERO) Act in PAHPA. The MISSION ZERO Act which passed the U.S. House unanimously on February 26, 2018, requires the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to award grants that would enable military trauma care providers and trauma teams to provide trauma care and related acute care at civilian trauma centers.

Thank you to our team of lobbyists from Winning Strategies Washington and our partners in the trauma community for working diligently with members of Congress to gather support for the bill. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming weeks.
