E&C to Markup Bipartisan Biosecurity and Preparedness Legislation and Nuclear Energy Legislation

The Energy and Commerce Committee officially introduced their Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) legislation on Monday, July 16, 2018. We are pleased to announce that Mission Zero legislation was included and authorized at $15 million. See pages 41-48 for specific language.

In addition, the following language was included regarding trauma center core mission grant programs.

SEC. 407. ADDITIONAL PURPOSES FOR GRANTS FOR CERTAIN TRAUMA CENTERS. Section 1241(a)(2) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 300d–41(a)(2)) is amended to read as follows: ‘‘(2) to further the core missions of such trauma centers, including by addressing costs associated with patient stabilization and transfer, trauma education and outreach, coordination with local and regional trauma systems, essential personnel and other fixed costs, expenses associated with employee and non-employee physician services, trauma staff recruitment and retention, ensuring surge capacity, trauma-related emotional and mental health services, and other investments needed to implement and maintain Regional Health Care Emergency Preparedness and Response Systems.’’

See the full bill text HERE. The Full Committee is set to markup the bill on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, and we will continue to provide updates.

TCAA launched our new Trauma Center Facts page! At the request of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), we also developed an interactive map of trauma centers, verified burn centers, hospitals with burn center capabilities, donor centers and transplant centers throughout the United States. The map has many functionalities which will allow users to determine additional services offered by trauma centers at the various levels.

Please take some time to browse the new page and the map.
