Hospital-Based Incident Command Systems: Real Experiences and Practical Applications

ASPR TRACIE hosted a webinar this week that featured speakers from large health care organizations who have experienced a recent emergency and activated their hospital-based incident command systems. The speakers provided a brief overview of the incident, described how they implemented their incident command system, shared lessons learned, and discussed how they have incorporated these lessons into their current systems and plans. Access the webinar recording on the title page of the presentation PowerPoint. The system will ask you to provide your name and email address before taking you to the recording.

Resources from the Field

The recently released NYC Pediatric Disaster Health care Preparedness Toolkit - Hospitals from the NYC Pediatric Disaster Coalition includes links to guidelines and templates designed for pediatric providers to create disaster plans at their individual health care sites. It also offers comprehensive information on how to conduct exercises that can be used for plan revision and improvement within the context of overall disaster preparedness. This resource can be found in the APSR TRACIE Pediatric Topic Collection.

The California Public Health and Medical Emergency Operations Manual Workgroup released the following two new resources that are now available on the ASPR TRACIE Mental/Behavioral Health Topic Collection: (1) Disaster Behavioral Health chapter outlines the range of DBH Services that may be provided during and after a disaster, and checklists related to response actions and resource management; (2) Resource Typing Guidance: Disaster Mental/Behavioral Health and Spiritual Care provides information on the types of DBH resources- including numbers and ratios- that can support certain disaster missions, and the second tool provides information regarding the types of personnel that may be suitable for deployment. While specific to the State of California, these tools can be tailored by other state planners.
