TCAA worked tirelessly with Dr. Burgess (R-TX) and Representative Gene Green (D-TX) to advance reauthorization language in the House of Representatives.  The Trauma Systems Regionalization of Emergency Care Reauthorization Act, H.R. 4080, would reauthorize two important grant mechanisms, the Trauma Care Systems Planning Grants and the Regionalization of Emergency Care Systems. The first supports state and rural development of trauma systems and the second funds pilot projects to design, implement, and evaluate innovative models of regionalized emergency care. It would also direct states to update their model trauma care plan with the input of updated stakeholders one year after enactment.

TCAA urges Congress to cosponsor and enact this vital legislation prior to the expiration of the programs. The Trauma Care Systems Planning Grants and the Regionalization of Emergency Care Pilots Trauma authorization expire this year and thus these programs were addressed first. The authorization for the Trauma Care Center and Service Availability Grants expire in 2015. Dr. Burgess and Representative Green are preparing a second bill that will reauthorize all the programs.
