Conference Overview and Target Audience:
This educational activity is designed for emergency medicine, general and orthopaedic surgeons; anesthesiologists; radiologists; intensive and critical care specialists; physician extenders; registered nurses; and other health care professionals who work in trauma care or management. Emphasis will be on cutting-edge care of injured children, up-to-date protocols for adults with traumatic orthopaedic injuries, current research on traumatic injuries, and interprofessional collaboration to improve the standard of care.

 

Objectives:
Following the conference, participants should be able to: • Evaluate cutting-edge care in the treatment of critically injured children • Implement diagnostic, treatment and management protocols for a patient with orthopaedic trauma • Discuss new methods to diagnose, treat and manage a polytrauma patient • Review treatment options for traumatic cervical arterial dissection • Explain a conceptual framework for non-accidental trauma in the trauma network • Discuss ethical dilemmas health providers may face under the Emergency Medical  Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).

 

CME Accreditation and Credit Designation: 

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

 

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 

Nursing Accreditation:

This activity provides .5 CME credits toward the annual requirement of the Texas Medical Board for continuing medical education credit in medical ethics or professional responsibility.
University Medical Center of El Paso is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association - Approver, an accredited approver with distinction, by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

 

This activity provides up to a total of 13 nursing contact hours for successful completion of this educational activity.
