President Represents TCAA at NASEM Forum

TCAA President, Jennifer Ward, attended the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies. The forum took place in Washington, DC August 9th and 10th. The forum featured briefings on various topics including cyber security, security and implications of the federal budget, fighting an opioid overdose, engaging the private sector to fight national security threats and wellness for law enforcement. Upcoming NASEM events include the November member meeting, February/March workshop and June member meeting.

 

TCAA U.S. Trauma Centers Map

TCAA unveiled its comprehensive database of U.S. trauma centers. The database displayed as a map includes the current location and contact information for all verified trauma centers nationwide which can be sorted by trauma center designation. We are excited to share this database as an accurate and reliable resource, and we encourage you to reference it as needed and share it with members of your networks.

IDA Report on Medical Readiness within Inpatient Platforms

The Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) released a report titled Medical Readiness within Inpatient Platforms. The report suggests methods of evaluating data to determine whether workload and diversity of care are adequate to sustain clinical skills. It also suggests solutions to address gaps in workload necessary to sustain clinical skills. TCAA was able to provide valuable insight into hospital operations by connecting the IDA with our members

Development of a Falls Registry: A Pilot Study

A multicenter pilot study was completed by the TCAA Injury Prevention Committee interviewing patients, over the age of 55, with injuries due to falls at Level I trauma centers. TCAA is happy to announce the publication of the “Development of a Falls Registry:  A Pilot Study” in the July/August 2017 - Volume 24 - Issue 4 of the Journal of Trauma Nursing. Based on the outcomes of this study, the committee plans on doing a follow up study to further reiterate the need for a National Falls Registry.
